Emanuel Signals He Might Consider City Reparations For Police-Torture Victims
(CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel is keeping the door open on the idea of paying reparations to victims of police torture under infamous former Commander Jon Burge.

Emanuel Wants 'Chapter Closed' On Police Torture
Community activists and torture victims have been stepping up pressure on the city to approve a $20 million fund for victims of police torture dating back to the 1970s.
An ordinance creating the fund hasn't even been called for a hearing.
Mayor Emanuel isn't backing the proposal, but at an unrelated event he didn't reject it, either.
"It didn't happen on my watch. It happened on the city's watch," he told reporters Friday, referring to the Burge scandal. "I personally apologized to the individuals and their families on behalf of the entire city, and I want to see the chapter closed for the city."
The mayor, who seeks re-election, says he wants to talk with aldermen sponsoring the reparations measure.
