Emanuel, Preckwinkle Seek Summer Opportunities For Youth
CHICAGO (CBS/WBBM) -- Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle are teaming up to make more jobs and summer programs available for young people in the City of Chicago.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, private foundations are donating a total of $1 million to provide different kinds of summer programs in four communities where summer crime is typically higher than in other areas.

The communities in question are Garfield Park, Englewood, Woodlawn and Little Village, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Then, the University of Chicago crime lab will examine data and try to determine whether one program, or parts of one program, are more effective than any of the others in reducing crime in the communities.
"We have limited resources. We've got to be better with what we have. We can't just keep doing the same thing and expect a different result," Emanuel said.
On a separate note, at the Web site OneSummerChicago.com, city residents can find information about jobs, recreational and educational programs during the summer for young people.
