Emanuel Opponents Want CTU's Lewis To Run For Mayor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A group of activists has launched a grassroots effort to recruit Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis to run against Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2015.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krasuer reports a new Facebook page went online yesterday, titled "Karen Lewis for Mayor of Chicago."
One post on the page says, "Let's flex some muscle."
Activists Want CTU's Lewis To Run For Mayor
The page includes commentary, stories, and an interview Lewis did with Crain's Chicago Business, in which she talks about a side of herself many don't see.
"I think people don't realize how calm I am; that I'm basically kind of chill, and very laid back, and I like to giggle and laugh and have a good time," Lewis said. "And I think people don't get that."
Newsradio reached out to the creators of the Facebook page, and was told the founders are people who are "sick, angry, and ****ed off about the way things are in Chicago, and have been for a long time.
They include activists young and old, who fight various forms of what they see as injustice. They said Lewis is the one person who has spoken up for them.
Lewis could not be reached immediately for comment.
