Emanuel: Medical Records Company Will Bring 300 Jobs To Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday announced that about 300 jobs will be coming to Chicago by the end of next year, courtesy of the medical records company Allscripts.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, Allscripts will add 300 new jobs with headquarters at the Merchandise Mart, and will host conventions at McCormick Place for the next three years.
Mayor Emanuel gloated a little as he added the job boost to his list of accomplishments.
"Now this brings us to – not that I'm counting – but 3,000 jobs in 40 days," he said.
Emanuel said electronic health records will provide huge cost savings and job growth.
"These are high-paying, high-value jobs that are in a very, very promising field of health care," Emanuel said.

The convention comes despite a federal judge recently throwing out labor rule changes at McCormick Place.
Allscripts chief executive officer Glen Tillman said he was impressed that Mayor Emanuel, Gov. Pat Quinn and legislative leaders have pledged to keep working to keep McCormick Place price-competitive.
"We really believe that the right thing will happen, and that everyone, ultimately, will get on line behind that," he said.
The labor rule changes were passed by the Illinois General Assembly after trade show organizers complained their costs were too high.
