Elmhurst Crash Kills Elderly Woman, Injures Man
Eighty-five-year-old Ophelia Morales of Elmhurst succumbed to her injuries just a few hours before Mother's Day. She was crossing York and Van Buren, in front of Jewel Food store with her 23 year old grandson, but was a few steps ahead of him.
"Her body went up and her head hit the windshield and the car threw her, Immediately, I grabbed my phone and called 911," said Mark Vorel.
Mark Vorel says the driver stopped and appeared to be in shock. Vorel and his wife Patty, were startled to learn that Morales passed away, and they're pressing for Elmhurst officials to do something.
"Please don't let her death go in vain," said Patty Vorel.
The Vorels would like to see a stop light at the intersection, where they say many school children also tend to cross this busy street.
