"The officer was attempting to stop two motorcycles" said Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl. "And in the course of trying to stop these motorcycles, somehow the officer lost control of his motorcycle, at which time the officer crashed."
Nebl says the two motorcyclists left the scene, heading north into Schaumburg.
He says witnesses describe the motorcycles as "high performance" - sleek and built for speed.
Nebl says the motorcycles are dark-colored and he says both riders wore dark leather jackets and one wore a distinctive helmet with a "mohawk" on top.
