Elgin Student Attacks Teacher
ELGIN, Ill. (CBS)–A student at Larkin High School in Elgin is accused of attacking a teacher.
The student allegedly confronted the teacher at roughly 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, between the fourth and fifth periods, in his classroom. Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said that heated words quickly turned physical.
He said the 15-year-old student allegedly slammed the 51-year-old teacher to the floor, punched him four or five times in the face, and then ran from the room. The police officer assigned to Larkin and school staff quickly cornered the student.
The teacher underwent treatment for contusions at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
The teen was taken to the Kane County Youth Home, near St. Charles, charged with felony aggravated battery to a school official. He faces a Thursday detention hearing.
Theriault said police are checking reports that he allegedly told other students of his intentions on the Internet beforehand.
