Elgin Pulling Plows, Conditions 'Simply Too Dangerous'
ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) - Northwest suburban Elgin is pulling some of its snow plows off the roads late Tuesday, saying via the city's Facebook page that white out conditions are "simply too dangerous:"
City manager Sean Stegall posted the message on Elgin's official Facebook page shortly before midnight, saying: "We are pulling some snow plows off the road now. It is simply too dangerous. They cannot see due to white out conditions."
Elgin Mayor Ed Schock declared a state of emergency Tuesday, and forecasters are predicting the northwest suburb will receive at least a foot of snow, according to a release on the city's website.
Residents are urged to stay off the road and can contact Elgin's 24-hour Snow Command Center at (847) 931-5977 or by email at snowcommand@cityofelgin.org, the release said.
