Elgin Couple Escapes From House Fire
ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) -- It was a close call, but an Elgin couple safely escaped overnight when a fire broke out in their home.
The fire broke out around 2:25 a.m. Friday in the 2700 block of Cascade Falls.
Elgin firefighters found the house engulfed in flames upon arriving, and ad to call in Rutland Dundee and South Elgin firefighters for assistance.
Police say the elderly couple was asleep in their home when the fire broke out. A man plowing snow in the subdivision called in the fire and woke up the couple, according to a news release.
The house was rendered uninhabitable, and damage is estimated at more than $300,000. Damage to neighboring homes is estimated at about $40,000 for one home and about $10,000 for another, the news release said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
