Electronic Message Board Destroyed In Crash On Stevenson
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An electronic message board was destroyed on the Stevenson Expressway Monday morning, when a car slammed into it and sped off.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the sign, which is used to broadcast such information as traffic updates and speed limit warnings, was standing in the shoulder on the outbound Stevenson near California Avenue when it was hit by a car sometime in the 6 a.m. hour.
The sign was left dangling over the side of the elevated stretch of the expressway, where heavy lifting equipment was poised below.
Ultimately, the sign dropped to the pavement below and was destroyed.
As of around 6:30 a.m., the right lane on the outbound Stevenson was blocked just before California Avenue. Inbound traffic was unaffected, although it was slow as usual for the morning rush.
