Electrical Fire Near Train Tracks Controlled, No One Hurt

CHICAGO (STMW) - No one was hurt when an electrical fire started Thursday afternoon in a Union Pacific railyard on the Northwest Side.
The fire started about 1:30 p.m. at 3200 N. Normandy Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
No one has been injured and as of 2:10 p.m. the electrical fire was under control and crews were picking up their equipment and leaving the scene, according to Curtis.
All trains in the area were immediately stopped after emergency officials received a 911 call reporting the fire, but traffic quickly started moving again when rail officials realized the fire involved a trestle in the railyard, not a main rail line, Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange said.
The fire completely was under control by 2:30 p.m., Lange said. He did not immediately know what caused the fire or how much damage it did to the trestle -- a type of rigid frame support structure.
Outbound Union Pacific/Northwest Line Metra train No. 619, scheduled to arrive in Harvard at 3:20 p.m., is running 15 minutes late because of a fire that happed adjacent to the tracks in the vicinity of Irving Park, according to a post on Metra's website at 2 p.m.
