Elections Held In A Few Suburbs

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- In addition to the city of Chicago, elections are also taking place Tuesday in two Cook County suburbs and in Lake County.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Mary Frances Bragiel reports, in suburban Cook County, consolidated primary elections are taking specifically in South Holland and Dolton.

In both suburbs, voters are being asked to cast their ballots for three trustees. Four are on the ballot in both suburbs – all Democrats in Dolton, and all members of the village-specific Heritage Community Party in South Holland.

With the general election on April 5, Cook County Clerk David Orr says he doesn't expect a great turnout with only eight candidates on the ballot.

"When you have few candidates running – particularly in the Dolton case when they didn't even know they'd be on the ballot until a few days ago – when you have that happen, it's hard to get a lot of publicity out there," Orr said.

In Lake County, specifically the City of North Chicago, candidates are vying for wards 2 and 4. In Waukegan, voters are electing alderman for wards 2, 3, 6, and 8.

In Waukegan's Ward 6, incumbent Larry TenPas is up against Susan Link., the wife of state Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan).

In the 8th Ward, police Officer William Valko is going after the seat occupied by Ald. Rick Larsen.

As in the city, polls close at 7 p.m.
