Election Judges Engaged After Meeting At Polling Place

DES PLAINES, Ill. (WBBM) -- A polling place might be an unlikely place to find love but, a north suburban couple is engaged after meeting on Election Day in November of 2008.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Regine Schlesinger reports, on this Election Day, Carl Lashley and Eve Parojcic are back at their polling place in Des Plaines, working again as election judges as they did the day they met during the 2008 presidential election.

But their relationship has changed dramatically since then.

"We chatted throughout the day," Lashley says. "At the end of the day, I said, 'Hey, maybe we should get together for dinner sometime.'"

They did and now, they're engaged to be married. Lashley says it's in the true spirit of bipartisanship.

"President Obama said we should reach across the aisle," Lashley said. "I, being a Republican; her, being a Democrat - we're just following our president's example."

Parojcic says Election Day 2008 will be a day to remember for them.

"We had an incredible and there were lots and lots of things to work through here in the polling place," she said. "So I think we had a great chance to see that we made a good team."

They've set their wedding date for Sept. 24, and plan to be back as married election judges for the 2012 presidential election.
