Elderly Woman Dies After Hodgkins Fire
HODGKINS, Ill. (STMW) -- An elderly woman died Sunday after a mobile home fire in southwest suburban Hodgkins.
About 1 p.m., firefighters responded to a full still fire at a mobile home at 6309 Long in Hodgkins, said Pleasantview Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Richard Lange.
The home was fully engulfed in flames and was "totally destroyed," Lange said.
The only resident of the home -- Lydia Elder, 85,-- was pronounced dead at 2:17 p.m. at Advent LaGrange Memorial Hospital in LaGrange, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Residents told CBS 2 that Elder lived alone and still worked as a cleaning lady at a local hotel.
The fire melted the exterior of the mobile homes on either side but both residences were still inhabitable.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
