Elderly Man Killed In Apparent Robbery In Crete Township
(STMW) -- Authorities are describing the slaying of an elderly south suburban man found dead in his home Wednesday as a "robbery that went terribly wrong."
Alfred Hilton, 85, was found dead at his home in the 3200 block of East Bemes Road in unincorporated Crete Township, the Will County Sheriff's office said in a statement.
Deputies responded about 6:30 p.m. after a concerned friend went to check on him and found his body, police said. Hilton lived alone, and friends became concerned after he did not show up for a church function earlier that day.
"The motive for this homicide appears to be a robbery that went terribly wrong," sheriff's office spokesman Ken Kaupas said in the release. "Several items were obviously missing from the house."
No arrests have been made, police said.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at (815) 727-8574 or leave an anonymous tip via their website, www.willcosheriff.org.
