Elderly Man Charged With DUI After Hitting Four Homes
PALOS HILLS, Ill. (STMW) -- A 77-year-old man was charged with drunk driving and issued several traffic violations after striking four houses early Monday in south suburban Palos Hills, damaging one so badly it is was rendered uninhabitable.
About 12:15 a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the area of 9700 Kingsbury Court for a traffic crash, a release from Palos Hills police said. When officers got to the scene they found Michael Doorhy's vehicle stuck against the north side of a garage and Doorhy inside the car, with his foot down on the accelerator, spinning the tires.
Police noticed that Doorhy had struck four houses in that area.
One house was so severely damaged that the city of Palos Hills found it to be unfit for occupancy, the release said.
While speaking to Doorhy police smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He submitted to a blood and urine test.
He was arrested and charged with four counts of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, two counts of improper lane usage, one count of improper backing, one count of reckless driving, and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, the release said.
Doorhy is scheduled to appear for a hearing at the Bridgeview courthouse, Room 105, on May 16 at 9 a.m.
