Eight Years Later, Tinley Park Police Still Following Up Tips In Lane Bryant Murders
TINLEY PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- Eight years and 7,000 tips later and the Lane Bryant murders still are not solved.
CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports that it's a difficult anniversary for the family and friends of loved ones who were shot-to-death that day in a store in Tinley Park.
Maurice Hamilton remembers hearing about his sister Rhoda McFarland's death, like it was yesterday.
"I got a call from my mother, asking me if I'm watching the news," Hamilton said.
That call, was eight years ago today. The news was tragic. Hamilton's sister and four other women were shot to death inside this Tinley Park Lane Bryant store. A sixth woman, who survived, was able to help police create a sketch of the gunman. He's still at large.
Hamilton says it's goof there have been so many tips but, "it takes that one tip to get it over the hump and hopefully one day, that tip will come in."
Last year alone, Tinley Park Police received 80 new tips about the case. Two investigators immediately work on any new leads.
"We think we've done a good job preserving evidence and so if there are some opportunities through breakthroughs in forensic technique, we can get a step closer," said Tinley Park Mayor David Seaman.
Hamilton says even though nearly a decade has passed, he's not giving up hope.
"It's heartfelt and God ain't never let me down. He won't let me down on this one," Hamilton said.
There is a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the killer.
