Eight Wounded In Citywide Gun Violence
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least eight people were wounded in shootings across the city since Wednesday afternoon.
The most recent shooting occurred in South Chicago, when two people were wounded by gunfire in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue about 6:35 a.m., police said.
A 45-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn after a bullet hit him in the back. A 17-year-old boy who was shot in the arm declined to be taken to a hospital at the scene, police said.
A few hours prior and just a four blocks away, an 18-year-old man was driving eastbound in the 2900 block of East 79th Street when gunfire erupted from a group of men gathered on a street corner about 3:10 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
Bullets grazed the 18-year-old's left leg and his abdomen, police said. He was listed in good condition at Jackson Park Hospital.
Earlier, on the North Side, a man was in the 2200 block of West Barry Avenue at 2 a.m. when he was shot in the arm, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition.
In West Englewood, a 39-year-old woman and her son were sitting on the front porch of a home in the 5600 block of South Wolcott Avenue at 12:15 a.m. when a gunman approached from a gangway and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. The woman suffered a graze wound to the back and was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital.
At 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a 30-year-old man was walking in an alley in the 1100 block of West 104th Street when someone opened fire, striking him in the left arm, Estrada said. He was taken in good condition to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island. The victim, who was shot in the Washington Heights neighborhood, has known gang affiliations.
In Greater Grand Crossing, a 35-year-old man was talking to someone he knew in the 7300 block of South Vernon Avenue about 9:20 p.m. when the person pulled out a gun and shot him, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was treated in "stable" condition for a gunshot wound to the calf.
A 28-year-old man was driving south in the 10000 block of South Oglesby Avenue at 3:20 p.m. when heard four shots and realized he'd been shot in the left calf, Estrada said. Friends transported the victim to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was listed in "stable" condition. The victim has known gang affiliations. Police initially listed the shooting as occurring at 2300 block of East 100th Street and 10000 block of South Oglesby Avenue.
