Edgar: Obama's Chicago Rally Won't Help Democrats

CHICAGO (CBS) - Former Governor Jim Edgar says President Obama's hometown rally may not help him as much as he hopes.

Edgar says the President's visit home may hurt his cause among suburbanites and downstaters, who have been gravitating toward the Republicans.

The stalwart, moderate Republican says the GOP will make major gains in Tuesday's elections. And, he says, President Obama's big rally in Chicago won't change that.

Edgar suggests that if the Republicans regain control of the U.S. House it might contribute to a truly bipartisan atmosphere on capitol hill. If Republican votes are needed to approve legislation, he says, both sides must work together.
