Ebert's Final Film Review To Be Published Sunday
(CBS) –Roger Ebert's final movie review will be published this Sunday, his longtime newspaper, the Chicago Sun-Times, says.
The famed movie critic, who helped popularize film criticism with his writings and syndicated television show, died Thursday after a series of health problems that included battles with thyroid and salivary gland cancer. He was 70.
Even with his failing health in the past decade, Ebert became more prolific than ever as a writer, contributing film reviews, essays and other offerings on his website and gaining a wide following on Twitter.
Sun-Times Weekend Editor Miriam Di Nunzio confirmed Friday that Ebert's final review will be published Sunday in a prominent place in the main news section; it will also be available online.
Di Nunzio declined to say which film will have the distinction of being the final review subject for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Ebert.
"It's an end of an era for us and for the film industry. He is probably the film industry's greatest champion. We miss him terribly," Di Nunzio says.
Among his latest reviews were middling assessments of "From up on Poppy Hill" and "The Host."
