3 Shot And Killed Inside East Side Home
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three people were shot and killed Sunday evening inside a home in the East Side neighborhood, and police were trying to determine if it was murder or self-defense.
Police confirmed someone shot a 24-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy in a house near 102nd and Ewing around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The homeowner initially told officers he shot three people who had broken into his home, but police said there are "inconsistencies" in the man's statements. A police source said a witness told investigators the three people who were killed had been at the house all day.
Investigators have confirmed the homeowner has a valid Firearm Owners Identification card. They also said he was being held for questioning Monday morning, but police have not said if he will face murder charges.
People who live and do business in the area said they wish they had more information about the incident; was it random or isolated?
"If we find out that it's actually more of a contained situation – of you know, known persons to the known victim – then let's get that out of the way, and this way everybody will feel a little safer. Mine is, like I said, I I don't want my tenants running from the neighborhood," said John Sandoval, a landlord in the neighborhood.
Area South Detectives were investigating.
