An organization that fulfills the wishes of dying patients asked what she wanted. Kaitlyn Henderson with HospiceDreams.org says Sowell had promised someday to take her son to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee.
"For her dream, she really wanted to fulfill that promise to her son," Henderson said.
So now, 9-year-old James will spend the day at the amusement park.
Henderson says unfortunately, his mother isn't up to the trip.
"He is a little sad that his mom can't go... because that is something that they had hoped to do together," she said.
But they plan to Skype with her so from her hospice bed at home, she can watch James and hear all about his day at the theme park.
