Dying Gunshot Victim Jumped Into Stranger's Car
CHICAGO (STMW) - A 25-year-old man who was fatally shot Monday night in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side apparently jumped into a stranger's vehicle and asked the driver to take him to the hospital.
About 9:20 p.m. Monday, a man was shot in the armpit in the 8700 block of South Ada Street, according to police News Affairs.
Ronald Collier, 25, of the 7800 block of South Winchester Avenue, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 9:58 p.m., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
After the shooting, Collier apparently jumped into a stranger's vehicle and told the female driver he had been shot and asked her to drive him to a hospital, warning her to "get out of there," a source said.
The woman drove him to the 7900 block of South State Street, then flagged down a police vehicle, the source said. The officer called for an ambulance, which transported Collier Northwestern.
No weapons or shell casings were found and no one is in custody Tuesday morning, police said.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
