During Eviction, Authorities Discover 'Grow House,' Weapons
GLENVIEW, Ill. (CBS) – Cook County sheriff's officials evicting a Glenview man from his rental home this week learned the man had deeper legal problems: He was growing marijuana and sitting on a cache of firearms.
Juro Konstantinov, 33, of the 1400 block of Evergreen Terrace, was charged with felony possession of cannabis and five counts of possession of a firearm without a Firearms Owners Identification card, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart's office said in a news release.
On Wednesday, representatives of the sheriff's Evictions Unit were executing an order for possession against Konstantinov for failure to pay rent when they discovered the grow house inside his home, the news release said.
In plain view were 14 mature cannabis plants and 30 seedlings. Narcotics agents from the department also seized 5,000 grams of cannabis with an estimated street value of $40,000.
Konstantinov also admitted he had weapons in the house, and police found two pistols, two rifles and a shotgun and ammunition, the sheriff's office said.
The suspect also had young children on the premises. Child-welfare officials were notified.
Konstantinov also has a warrant from Monroe County, N.Y. for trafficking in stolen property. He is in the process of being extradited to New York to face charges on his outstanding warrant.
