DuPage GOP Chief, State Rep. Ramey, Pleads Guilty To DUI
CAROL STREAM, Ill. (STMW) -- The head of the DuPage County Republican Party pleaded guilty Monday to a DUI charge stemming from an August drunken driving arrest.
State Rep. Randy Ramey (R-Carol Stream) was sentenced to one year of court supervision and fined $1,750, Carol Stream Police Chief Kevin Orr said. Ramey also was ordered to undergo counseling, perform 100 hours of community service and attend a victim impact panel.
Ramey was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use after Carol Stream police observed him driving his vehicle erratically and crossing the center line on Lies Road at 2:10 a.m. Aug. 28.
After being stopped, Ramey told police he had been drinking, failed four field-sobriety tests and registered a .179 blood-alcohol level, which is more than twice the .08 legal driving limit, police said.
Ramey was in his vehicle by himself at the time.
He is the stepson of former Senate President James "Pate" Philip (R-Wood Dale), and took over the helm of the DuPage County Republican Party in July, filling the unexpired term of Dan Cronin as party chair.
