DuPage Chairman Seeks To Halt Pension Abuses
WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM) -- In a bid to control pension costs, the DuPage County Board has created a special committee to look into solving the problem.
As WBBM Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin says action must be taken to bring down pension costs, and the committee set up by the board will examine the county pension system and compare it with what is done in the private sector.

Cronin wants to end abuses such as inflating an official's salary just before retirement to boost pensions.
"Pension spiking is an abuse. I think there are other practices – there's accumulation of sick days, vacation days – I think some of that, really, the time has come and is long gone for that," Cronin said.
Unlike in Wisconsin, where officials voted to strip employees of collective bargaining rights, Cronin says he wants employees to be part of the discussion.
