Ducklings Fall Into Sewer While Trying To Cross Lake Shore Drive
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The commute home last night on Lake Shore Drive was a little rough for some ducks.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, the mother duck and her five ducklings were found in a Streeterville parking garage by Jamie Holbrook around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Ushering them to a park, and what she thought was safety, Holbrook saw them trying to cross Lake Shore Drive, the Tribune said.
With the help of a Good Samaritan, she scooped the ducklings up. But three fell into a storm drain.
Police, fire, and Streets and Sanitation workers came in, and a tow truck yanked off the manhole cover.
Crews used a baseball cap to rescue the stranded ducklings, and released them into Lake Michigan.
