DSW Shoe Warehouse In South Loop Robbed
CHICAGO (STMW) - A shoe store in the South Loop was robbed Sunday morning.
At 10:10 a.m., a man approached the register inside the DSW Shoe Warehouse, 1101 S. Canal St., and displayed a gun, according to Central District police Lt. Robert Lajewski. There were a few people inside, as the store had just opened.
The assailant reached over into the cash register and took $150 before fleeing on foot. He did not fire the weapon, or jump behind the counter or tie anyone up.
No one was hurt. Someone from the store called 911 and several patrol officers who were already in the area responded to the large store, located on the second floor of a building in a mall, the lieutenant said.
Officers were not successful immediately in apprehending the suspect who likely got away in a vehicle, because there is no rapid transit nearby, the lieutenant said.
Video surveillance inside the store captured an image of the suspect, who was described as African-American, about 6-feet tall and 180 pounds.
He was wearing a skull cap under a black hooded windbreaker with a dark purple or red stripe near the shoulder area, and its hood up, Lajewski said.
He was wearing sunglasses, blue jeans and white gym shoes, possibly with a blue stripe on them, according to the lieutenant.
A store manager said at 11:20 a.m. that the store remained open.
The robbery was not immediately believed to be linked to any others at that establishment.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
