Mother Charged With DUI While Kids In Car
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (STMW) -- A woman had two young children in her car when she was stopped for driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone while drunk Wednesday night in southwest suburban Bolingbrook, police said.
Police said Sopheap Som, 30, was driving a white 2004 Nissan Maxima North on Weber Road above the legal speed limit when she was stopped Wednesday near 115th Street at 11:14 p.m., Bolingbrook police Lt. Michael Rompa said.
At first, Som refused to get out of the vehicle. She eventually complied and was placed under arrest, though she resisted being handcuffed, Rompa said.
The arresting officer found two children in the vehicle, ages 1 and 5. It was unclear what relation Som was to the children, he said.
Based on the officer's observation, Som was charged with DUI.
Bond was set at $3,000 on Thursday at the Will County Courthouse and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Feb. 3., Will County State's Attorney's office spokesman Charles Pelkie said.
Som, of the 2100 block of Chadwick Lane in Glendale Heights, faces one count of felony aggravated DUI, two misdemeanor counts of endangering the life or health of a child, and one misdemeanor count of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, Rompa said. She was also cited for speeding and operating an uninsured vehicle.
