Drunk Driver Wearing Only Socks & Underwear Hits Cop Car
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 24-year-old man was charged with DUI and a number of other driving-related offenses after he fell out of his car, clad only in underwear and socks, after crashing into a police squad car on the Northwest Side Saturday morning.
About 11 a.m. Saturday police got a call from a citizen about a possibly drunk driver in the area of Diversey and Kostner avenues, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
Officers spotted the car -- a 2010 black 4-door Honda Accord -- going through an alley in the 4000 block of West Diversey Avenue, then heading westbound on George Street. The car then went southbound -- the wrong way on a one-way street -- on Kilbourn, Mirabelli said. As other officers were responding to the area, the car crashed into one of the responding squad cars at Kilbourn Avenue and George Street.
At that point, the driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Arsenio Garcia, "opened up the door and just fell out of the car," Mirabelli said.
The officer who was in the squad car Garcia crashed into suffered minor injuries.
Garcia, of the 4000 block of West Potomac Avenue, was charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI, using an alley where thru-traffic is prohibited as a thru-street, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, no insurance, no driver's license, failing to reduce sped to avoid an accident, and damage to public property (which included the squad car).
He has a court date of March 6 at the Daley Center.
