Police Fatally Shoot Suspect After Drug Bust, Car Chase
COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (CBS) -- A drug bust that went awry led to shots and a shopping mall car chase in far south suburban Country Club Hills, with one vehicle landing on its roof.
Cook County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Patterson says the suspect acted suspiciously and tried to leave the scene at 167th and Pulaski.
Patterson says the suspect tried to drive off -- and right at the Cook County sheriff's police who were trying to stop him. Police fired shots and the suspect was hit in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Hospital for treatment of a serious wound. The sheriff's department later said the suspect, Nyarko Johnson, 37, of Markham, died.
Three others in the car with him were arrested.

The injured officers were taken to South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest and the suspect was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. All suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries, Patterson said.
The shooting will be investigated by an independent Illinois State Police unit.
Patterson said the chase covered a couple of blocks inside the mall parking lot around 1:45 p.m.
