Dropping Temperatures Ahead Of Potential Winter Storm Midweek
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hopefully you took advantage of the spring-like weather we had in Chicago this weekend, because temperatures will be more wintry all week, and we could be getting heavy snow in the middle of the week.
While temperatures on Monday were a bit milder than normal this time of year, with the high expected to be in the low 40s, it's a far cry from the high 50s and low 60s that came through Friday and Saturday.
Tuesday will be a little above average again, with a high in the mid 40s, but then temperatures will get gradually colder through the end of the week.
On Wednesday, Chicago also could get hit with a winter storm, including several inches of snow.
While it's still too early to predict specific amounts, there appears to be a low risk of more than 4 inches of snow for most of the Chicago area, and a medium risk for most of northwest Indiana and the southern suburbs.
The storm would come from a low pressure system making its way through the Southwest on Monday or Tuesday. The question will be how far east it gets before it turns north. A more northwesterly track could result in significant snowfall, while a more easterly track would mean not much snow at all.
Strong winds also were expected on Wednesday, with gusts of more than 40 mph, even if there is no snow.
Snow or no snow, temperatures will be no better than the mid 30s on Wednesday and Thursday, and then the low 30s on Friday and Saturday.
