Driver Still At Large In West Side Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are still looking for a hit-and-run driver who slammed into a mother and her three children on the city's Near West Side.
The accident happened at Jackson Boulevard and Paulina Street around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Investigators say man driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer ran a red light at Paulina. It slammed into a second car, sending that vehicle turning and sliding into all four victims. That driver was not at fault, police said.
A witness said the mother and her children were crossing the street at the time of the accident.
Police located the Blazer Monday night, but it was unoccupied.
Police say the suspect left the Blazer in an alley at Oakley Boulevard and Adams Street about six blocks from the crash site.
The baby's mother had been expected to stay at Stroger Hospital of Cook County overnight, while the other children, aged 3 and 7, were expected to be released from the hospital. Updates on their conditions were not immediately available Tuesday morning.
