Driver Killed In Hit-And-Run On Shoulder Of Stevenson
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A pickup truck driver was arrested overnight, about 15 minutes after he struck and killed a motorist who was standing on the shoulder of the Stevenson Expressway, while waiting for a tow truck.
Enrique Lopez, who was in his 30s, was killed when he was hit by the pickup truck around 10:15 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Damen Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Lopez's vehicle had been experiencing mechanical problems and he had pulled over on the shoulder of the Stevenson Expressway, police said. A pickup truck heading north hit Lopez while he was standing on the shoulder waiting for a tow truck.

The truck, described as a white pickup truck with a blue driver's door, did not remain at the scene of the crash, he said.
Police, however, found the truck about 15 minutes later in Chicago in the 5400 block of South Ellis, police said. The driver was taken into custody and charges were pending Friday afternoon.
Lopez was severely injured in the crash and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, but attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m. on Thursday, authorities said.
State Police conducted a reconstruction of the crash at the scene and an investigation was underway Friday afternoon.
