Police say Francisco Acevedo, 25, of Elgin, was riding his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle on Walnut Avenue when he collided with a sport-utility vehicle whose driver was making a left turn onto Walnut from Mosely Street.
As Acevedo lay dying on the street, police say the driver of the 1999 GMC Suburban kept going.
Acevedo, of the 900 block of Shuler Street in Elgin, was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin where was pronounced dead, police said.
Witnesses helped police catch up with the driver, a 48-year-old woman, a few blocks away.
She was also hospitalized at Sherman Hospital in Elgin with injuries she suffered in the crash, and is in custody on unrelated, and unspecified, charges. As of Thursday morning, there were no charges.
