Driver Drops Cell Phone, Slams Into 3 Parked Cars
PARK RIDGE, Ill. (STMW) - A dropped cell phone was blamed for a crash last week involving three parked vehicles along a street in north suburban Park Ridge.
A 19-year-old Park Ridge woman told police she was driving about 12:50 a.m. Jan. 31 on Northwest Highway when she dropped her cell phone, causing it to land behind the break pedal of her 2002 GM Envoy, according to a Park Ridge Police Department accident report.
The woman told police that when she tried to retrieve the phone, her vehicle veered to the right, striking a car parked on the 400 block of North Northwest Highway. The vehicle she struck was pushed into a car parked in front of it, and that car struck a third parked vehicle, police said.
The woman reportedly continued driving until she pulled into the Village Green Shopping Center, 678 N. Northwest Hwy. According to the accident report, the woman said she did not immediately stop after the accident "because she was shaken and scared from what just occurred and did not know where her phone was."
The woman was issued tickets for failure to leave information after an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage and failure to provide proof of current insurance, police said.
