Driver Dead After SUV Rollover Crash In Riverside
RIVERSIDE, Ill. (CBS) -- A west suburban man is dead, after a sport-utility vehicle he was driving crashed and rolled over at the junction of two residential side streets in Riverside.
At 11:42 p.m. Wednesday, Riverside police received several 911 calls of about an SUV that had crashed into a tree at Longcommon and Delaplaine roads. Responding officers found the silver 2003 Mercury Mountaineer on the lawn of a house on the block, with a man and woman standing outside.
Police believe the SUV was traveling fast down the street when the driver, Cesar Ramirez, 26, of Woodridge, lost control and hit the curb. The vehicle rolled over numerous times, and Ramirez was ejected.
He was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. at 12:05 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The other person in the SUV, was a 23-year-old woman from Cicero, police said. She suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Loyola.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from both victims, police said.
The woman told police they were coming from Lalo's Restaurant in the 3000 block of South Harlem Avenue in Berwyn, the release said.
The accident investigation shut down Longcommon and Delaplaine roads for about four hours.
Police say there were no other witnesses to the crash.
