Driver Cited In Wreck That Killed Toddler, Grandmother
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 45-year-old woman has been cited for failing to yield to pedestrians in the walkway as a result of a West Pullman neighborhood accident Saturday morning where a toddler was killed and her grandmother hospitalized.
Dominique Gilbert, 23-months, was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Dominique, of 101 W. 124th St., and a female relative were in the crosswalk when the vehicle struck them, according to the spokesman.
The child and her grandmother were struck at 10:20 a.m. in the 12400 block of South State Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
The woman and girl were initially taken in "very critical" condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Zala put the grandmother's condition as "stable" as of 2:45 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle, 45-year-old Dana Cross, stayed on the scene and was issued one citation for failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk, according to police.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
