Driver Charged With DUI After Running Over, Killing Man
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A West Side man was charged with reckless homicide after driving his vehicle into a group of pedestrians, fatally striking a man early Saturday in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Leroy L. Bobo, 42, of the 5700 block of West Race Avenue, was charged with reckless homicide, aggravated DUI involving death, aggravated DUI involving bodily harm, failure to report an accident and driving on a suspended license, according to police.
The vehicle struck a man and three women crossing the street in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue at 12:40 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
The vehicle fled north on Central Avenue and struck several cars before stopping, Gaines said.
Mario Ortega, 38, of the 4700 block of West Palmer Street, was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center at 1:10 a.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
A woman suffered a broken ankle and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, a second woman was taken in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with injuries to her arm and hip, and a third woman was hospitalized at Mount Sinai Hospital.
On Monday, Bobo was ordered held on $500,000 bond.
