Driver Charged In South Side Hit-And-Run

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A South Side woman was facing multiple criminal charges and traffic citations on Saturday, following a hit-and-run accident that injured a woman waiting for a bus earlier this week.
Tyreesha Fraley, 21, of the 6500 block of South Claremont Avenue, was charged with failure to report an accident involving injury; two counts of damage to public property for striking a city light pole and a bench at the bus stop; driving without a license; operating a motor vehicle without insurance; failure to render aid to the injured; failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and negligent driving, according to a police News Affairs release.
Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered Fraley held on $100,000 bond during a hearing Saturday in Cook County Criminal Court, according to a court clerk. Fraley is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Feb. 4 in (Br. 2), the clerk said.
At 5:09 p.m. on Wednesday, Fraley was driving a 1993 Buick LeSabre near 69th and State streets when she drove onto the sidewalk and struck a woman waiting for the bus. The 58-year-old victim was seriously injured and lost her leg in the accident.
The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. No one else was injured.
After the crash, the female motorist and a female passenger fled west on foot to the CTA station at 69th Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, police said.
After Chicago Police issued a Community Alert seeking information in the incident, community activists and volunteers distributed over 500 flyers regarding the case. Due to their tireless efforts, Fraley was identified as the driver and charges were brought, the release said.
The release said Fraley is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing later Saturday.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
