Drew Peterson Transferred To State Prison In Southern Illinois
(CBS) – Convicted wife killer Drew Peterson has been moved to a third state prison since being sentenced to 38 years behind bars last week.
The Illinois Department of Corrections confirms Peterson, 59, arrived Thursday at Menard Correctional Center in southern Illinois. That comes on the heels of Peterson's move to Pontiac, another maximum-security facility, last week, after a brief stop in Stateville.
Peterson, a onetime Bolingbrook police sergeant, was convicted of first-degree murder last September in the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He's also been declared a suspect in the disappearance of his missing fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.
His sentencing hearing was last week in Joliet. It was marked by Peterson's angry, rambling, and emotional plea for lenience. Peterson yelled at one point, "I did not kill Kathleen!"
Peterson has been in jail for nearly four years, after his arrest in May 2009, and will receive credit for the time he's already been incarcerated. He won't be eligible for release until 2047, when he'll be 93 years old.
