Draft Watch: Will The Bears Look At The Other Pouncey Twin?

Maurkice Pouncey was a Pro-Bowl selection for the Pittsburgh Steelers as a rookie. His twin brother Mike, could be a draft prospect for the Chicago Bears at the end of the first round.

"[In] the first round, if you bat .500 you're doing pretty good," Dan Pompei, of the Chicago Tribune, said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "If you get one out of every other year you're doing OK. That's just how the round is."

General mangers and coaches can often keep or lose their jobs solely on the production, or lack there of, from first round draft picks. Mike Pouncey's pedigree might make him seem like a safer pick in the first round, depending on a team's strategy for evaluating him.

"You can't assume that he will be because his brother has been that good," Pompei said of Mike's chances of stepping into the league and playing to a Pro-Bowl level. "You have to evaluate him as his own person. It'll be an intense debate, I'm sure. How much does his brothers success affect how you view this kid?"

Each of the 32 NFL teams will probably answer that question differently. But while it might be tough decide how to weigh his brother's NFL success, Mike's college career speaks for itself.

"If he were there [at 29] he'd look like a real good candidate for the Bears, in my opinion," Pompei said. "Because he's a guy who can play both positions, center and guard, and if you think he's as good as his brother, it looks like he's going to be able to play in the NFL for a long time at a high level."

But with such a late first-round pick, the Bears may not be in the market for an interior lineman. The bigger need for the offensive line is probably a left tackle. And if one of the elite tackle prospects isn't available, the focus might shift to receiver or defense, as interior lineman still have good value in the late second round.
