Downers Grove School Secretary Resigns After Theft
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (STMW) - A west suburban high school secretary has resigned after allegedly stealing $4,000 in cash from the school's homecoming funds.
Community High School District 99 notified Downers Grove police that about $4,000 in cash was taken from receipts from the Downers Grove South High School Homecoming Variety Shows, conducted Sept. 22 and 23, according to a statement by the district.
The missing funds were identified through regular internal accounting procedures.
After initial questioning by the school administrator, a secretary admitted to taking the funds, the statement said.
The employee has resigned and the matter has been referred to police.
Downers Grove police said no information was immediately available.
