Downers Grove Memorial Day Parade Canceled Due To Construction
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (WBBM) -- An ongoing construction project means there will be no Memorial Day parade in Downers Grove this year.
For years, veterans in Downers Grove would march through downtown to Fishel Park.
Construction of a new bandshell in the park means the parade this year is canceled, according to the village.

However, there will be a ceremony at the American Legion Post Number 80 at 11am on Memorial Day.
The Post Commander tells the Chicago Tribune that veterans will make a battlefield cross, which involves setting a helmet on top of a rifle in the ground and next to an empty pair of combat boots.
There will also be a wreath laying ceremony and a reading of the names of 63 Downers Grove residents killed in action since World War I.
