Double-Jackknifed Semi Shuts Down Edens
UPDATED 02/04/11 12:13 p.m.
NORTHBROOK, Ill. (CBS) -- A double-jackknifed truck caused a multi-vehicle pileup on the outbound Edens Expressway Friday morning, and caused a traffic jam several miles long.
The crash happened before during the morning rush on the outbound Edens between Willow and Tower roads. All lanes were blocked as of just before 8 a.m.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the spectacular weather-related crash involved a dual-trailer semi truck, which spun 180 degrees and became lodged in the snow. The truck took out a couple of cars and a sport-utility vehicle.
Illinois State Police said no injuries were reported.
The crash caused a traffic jam that lasted nine miles. The inbound Edens was also slow with gapers.
Heavy hook equipment was required to remove the truck, and the snow had to be moved before the semi can be hauled away.
The left lane of the outbound Edens had reopened by just before 9 a.m. All lanes were back open by late morning.
