Donations Sought To Help Family Of Chicago State Student

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago State University is accepting donations to help defray funeral costs for a student who collapsed and died after playing basketball on campus.

Jerome Porter, 19, was a freshman majoring in engineering studies. He collapsed Tuesday afternoon in the Jacoby Dickens Center gymnasium after he went to a water fountain after playing basketball.

Porter, of the 8100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue, was found on his back, and university police were called and administered emergency care.

Porter was transported to Advocate Trinity Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m..

Counseling is available to students.
