Donations Pouring In For Japan Relief Efforts
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Over the last few days, the phones have been ringing non-stop at the North Side office of the Japanese American Service Committee, as the organization collects money for the relief effort in Japan.
"It's very difficult to watch," Susan Tybon, CEO of the Japanese American Service Committee, said of the images from Japan in the wake of a massive earthquake and ensuing tsunami.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Regine Schlesinger reports, Tybon's organization has spent the few days raising money to help with the recovery.
Some of the pledges are coming from businesses and universities, although most of the money is coming from ordinary people touched by the plight of the Japanese. Tybon said she doesn't have exact figures on the amount raised so far.

Tybon said the group also is urging others to organize their own fundraising efforts.
"If you're part of a bowling tournament, get your bowling tournament to raise funds on behalf of JASC," she said.
All of the money raised by the Japanese American Service committee will be turned over to the American Red Cross for its Japan relief program. You can visit the committee's website by clicking here.
