Donations Pour In To Help Victims Of Condo Fire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The alderman and state representative of Chicago's Morgan Park neighborhood are pitching to help their neighbors who lost nearly everything in a weekend fire.
19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea says nearly 70 residents were left homeless by that fire at a five-story condo building at 2030 W. 111th Street.
O'Shea says he's been swamped with over a hundred calls and emails from those wanting to help.
Through Facebook, he says he and state Rep. Monique Davis consulted with the Red Cross and Salvation Army, and determined what's needed most are contributions of gift cards - either Visa gift cards or those for retailers like Target, Kohl's, Jewel, or Walgreen's.
Those who want to help, he says, can drop off donations at his office at 104th Street and Western or Davis' district office on 95th street near Racine.
