Donation Required For CPS Principal For A Day

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The application to be Principal for a Day in the Chicago Public Schools tomorrow appears to require a donation of at least $1,000.

But school officials say there is no requirement.

Sort of.

In the on-line application for Principal for a Day, it says, "Commitment Pledge of Support," and then in parentheses, it says REQUIRED.

Then, you must check a box for dollar amounts: $1,000 up to $10,000 or more.

"It's poorly written," said Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools.

"It may have been misconstrued but in no way is it any indication or something that we're requiring, so to speak, for participants to do.

"It simply means the requirement is to check a box."

Bond says the Chicago Public Schools do want a donation of cash or, as the application says, an in-kind donation of volunteer time, school supplies or office equipment.

Bond says if the form is causing confusion, they'll change it.
