Dominick's Still Selling Gift Cards Despite Imminent Closings
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gift cards are popular presents this time of year, but there's one being sold right now- that really caught our attention.
CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports it turns out gift cards are still for sale at Dominick's grocery stores even though the Chicago stores are all going away right after Christmas.
CBS 2 found them just steps inside Dominick's front door at the top of a rack of gift cards.
It makes perfect sense to find those there until you consider where do you redeem it?
It's a logical question for a chain soon shutting down every Chicago store - for good.
There's no alert on the cards about that nothing to notify customers of their short shelf life and CBS 2 still found plenty of them on two different displays inside a Dominick's in Lincoln Square and another in Edgewater.

"I don't think they're saying anything about anything," said Jill Mroz.
That's been her experience since learning her Ukrainian Village store is closing. Again – CBS 2 found gift cards there. A store worker said they'll stop selling gift cards this week.
"That's not good, for customers to come back and redeem them because there won't be any in Chicago," said Mroz.
A Dominick's spokesperson says all Chicago Dominick's customer service employees were notified today that the sale of gift cards will be discontinued on Nov. 30. In addition, employees were told to warn customers considering buying cards.
They are encouraging all customers with balances to redeem them by Dec. 28. If customers have a balance on Dec. 28 – they will can the customer service number on the back of the gift card and arrange redemption.
